The birth of SHA series (Part 2)

People usually named clay pottery as Artistic crystal from fire and clay. Purple clay is especially the flashing point of this crystallization.

After heating with an extremely high temperature of 1170o C
for 24 hours,
SHA undertook his most important hammer testing in his life.

From a piece of soft and loosen clay,
eventually turned into a piece of hard purple clay.

But in this processing,
not more than half can finally lead us into happiness.
It is because, to all the craftsman who producing pottery,
firing, is the most critical step in the whole production.
Success or Failure entirely depends on this.

However, in the traditional kiln firing methods,
the outcome is not possible to be fully determined by the human factors.
It is also depends on the climate, seasons, the atmospheric pressure and the kilns temperature changes.

Therefore, we may be understand
why ancient craftsmen would like to take a bath, change new clothes and pray to God first before the firing.
In their mind,
all these natural factors are determined by the gift from God.
After the birth of each exquisite SHA,
we will all memorize those craftsmen who have contributed silently.
Just because of their persistent pursuit of arts and crafts
can create the perfect of SHA!

After many times of crafting trials, they can make it! This is such a big revolution for the traditional craftsmanship, under the trend of modern industrialization, finding its existing value.

Every single piece of tools,
Every subtle motion,
And every crafting trials,
All these together lead the birth of the SHA series, inputting with expectation!

Purple Clay - the wonderful gift from God!

Purple clay is a kind of very special clay. It is exclusively produced in Jiangnan, a place in China.
It is said that very long time ago, one day there was a monk came to Jiangnan. He wandered around the town and shouted loudly. Offering clay that can make one rich! The villagers were so curious and followed the monk. They walked and walked and came to the end of the village. The monk was then suddenly disappeared and couldnt be found anymore.
The villagers found some five-colors-clay at the place where the monk disappeared. After beating and burning of this special clay, it was so amazing that the villagers could shape them into different colors and very unique potteries.
They were indeed the purple clay potteries nowadays.

Purple clay mine was formed 3.5 hundred millions years ago, in the geological age of Paleozoic Devonian. In China, purple clay has been developed and used for more than one thousand year. Purple clay is different from other normal clay. It is the combination of symbiotic mineral raw materials including clay, quartz and mica which are in high quality, natural and active.
Purple clay is known as Five-colors-clay, with colors purple, white, yellow, black and green. The colors are bright, simple but tasteful.
The purple clay utensils are having a smooth bright surface carrying some small particles, making them a sandy effect. Thats why the purple clay is also named as Zisha clay (sha is meaning of sand in Chinese).

The purple clay utensils are smooth with natural glossiness, thus no glazing is needed. Nevertheless, after a long time usage, the texture of the surface will become more warm and moisturized like Jade.

Since purple clay cannot be mixed by water directly, for pottery making, the traditional methods of grouting or wheel forming are not appropriated to be used. It can only be fabricated by hand-made!  Such craftsmanship has been developed and accumulated by experience in China over thousand years. Thats why we can see today all these purple clay crafts are really the crafts of art, or wonderful workmanship excelling the nature.

“Five Senses Treatment” - the tension defusing treatment (Part I)

Due to the rapid pace of life and excessive stress, many modern people lives under great pressure encountering problems of depression, fatigue, lazy, insomnia, headache, and losing attention.
Researches have shown that the "Five Senses Treatment" can deal with these symptoms with very good results.

Five sense treatments

Five sense treatments originate from the ancient eastern traditional theory of Yin and Yang.  Using the five-sense treatments that involve “sound”, “colour”, “smell” and so on make adjustments to the body and soul for keeping health.  As far as “sound” is concerned, the five notes of ancient Chinese music, “gong”, “shang”, “jiao”, “zhi” and “yu”, are used to regulate the human body’s mechanisms and to balance the emotions.  With reference to “colour”, the use of variations of the five colours of “green”, “red”, “yellow”, “white” and “black” can tune the psychological and physiological mechanisms of the human body.  When “smell” is involved into respiration, the inhalation of different fragrances will improve blood circulation to refresh our brain.

Upholding the ancient way of preserving health, Five sense treatments enable us to achieve heaven-man harmony and to maintain a healthy state by keeping balance of the body and soul.

Sense of Auditory - music treatment:

Heavenly music from China

In China, a blowing musical instrument named YUN in the shape of egg had been very popular since Shang Dynasty, more than 3 thousands years ago. YUN is one of the oldest globular & flute-like Chinese instruments, which was made of clay or ceramic, similar to an ocarina but without a fipple mouthpiece. The thick and penetrating sound by YUN can be visualized as a boundless desert or a meadow of densely grown grasses.
It has a blowing hole on top and generally eight smaller finger holes (three each for the index, middle, and ring fingers of each hand, and one for each thumb). It is popular also because of its compact size, easy-to-carry, graceful sound and beautiful shape. The pitch is controlled by the different arrangement of the air windows, air chambers and holes on it.

Listening to the heavenly music, one can be relieved from the secular world, identifying the true self, and returning to the spiritual realm of purity…..

Nowadays, PUZHEN Life combines the cultural tradition of China with the ordinary life.
